What is a blog?

Online marketing for the offline business should begin with the development of a blog. Often many offline business owners are not even familiar with the term “blog” or how to begin. It is often what holds them back from pursuing online marketing, the scary “blog”. Actually a blog is not scary at all and quite simple to start and implement. The word blog is defined as a journal online. There are a couple ways to use a blog to market an offline business.

The first being a business blog. This blog will give the reader an insiders view on your business. What it does, how long it has been functional, what services it offers, how it is better then similiar businesses, are just a few “blogging” ideas. In other words, this blog will be focused just on the day to day, month to month, year to year, functions of your business. You will use a few important keywords throughout the blog so customers will find it easier on the search engines, and your phone should be ringing off the hook in no time flat.

Your other option is a personal blog. A personal blog which is also a very popular blogging choice, can include other elements besides your business. You may want to speak about your children, your spouse, the area in which you live, etc. These are all perfectly acceptable on a personal blog. You would then interject snippets about your business as well. Don’t forget the keywords that will lead customers to the blog, and you and your business are now “online”. In the future you do have the option of developing a business or personal website with all the bells and whistles, but a blog is a great way to get started and get the ball rolling.
